Playboy and the sand
The Playboy Mansion in Los Angeles recently sold for $100 million. According to public records, it is the highest price ever paid for a Los Angeles residence. The mansion is 20,000 square feet with 29 rooms and a zoo with exotic birds and monkeys. Although we don't have any $100 million properties on Anna Maria Island we do have some very impressive numbers which just keep going up.
The last time I reviewed the million dollar and over properties, it reflected five months' worth of sales between Nov. 1, 2015, and March 31, 2016, so it was definitely time for an update. The following sales statistics represent sales between April 1, 2016 and June 30, 2016, as reported on the Manatee County Property Appraiser's website:
The village of Cortez closed four million dollar and over properties ranging from $1,450,000 to $1,048,000. This represents an important step forward for Cortez, which did not have any million and over sales during the five months previously analyzed. In addition, Cortez, as of this writing, has four properties listed between $1,590,000 and $1,100,000 and one listed at $990,000. The properties for sale in Cortez and the remainder of the cities below are obtained from realtor.com, which is generally a reflection of the multiple listing service.
Anna Maria City closed 13 properties during April, May and June this year ranging in price from $2,700,000 to $1,500,000, as well as one property selling for $925,000. The last five-month analysis showed 14 million dollar and over sales and five over $900,000. In my opinion, this is an improvement since we are comparing three months to five months with similar numbers. As of this writing, there are 36 million dollar and over properties listed in Anna Maria City ranging from $5,995,000 to $1,050,000. In addition, there are five properties listed in the $900,000's
Holmes Beach and Bradenton Beach closed 20 properties over a million dollars for the three months I looked at ranging from $1,700,000 to $1,025,000 without any selling in the $900,000 range. The previous five-month analysis showed 10 million dollar or over sales with three sales in the $900,000's, doubling the over million dollar sales. As of this writing, the available listings for these two towns over a million dollars are a blow-out 78 properties available, ranging from $3,495,000 to $1,049,000 with 16 listed in the $900,000's.
This little exercise I do every three to five months serves to keep what's going on around us in perspective, especially for people who don't follow the real estate market as closely as others. I hope you're as impressed with our progress as I am and enjoy reading about it.
One other note, while your head is still spinning from all these impressive numbers, I'll list some of states our new neighbors are relocating from: Indiana, Wisconsin, Illinois, Virginia, Maryland, Tennessee, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Connecticut, Michigan, North Carolina as well as Canada and the United Kingdom.
Those of us who remember the Playboy empire with bunny tails, supper clubs and endless parties may feel the loss of an era, but thankfully the mansion will still go on. It seems like our million-dollar era is just beginning with a lot of growth ahead. We may not have zoos with monkeys, but we do have a lot of exotic birds and a couple of bunnies not to mention awesome properties.
