This year’s Spirit Day closed out the regular season for youth soccer at the Anna Maria Island Community Center. As the tradition goes, friends and family come out and support their favorite teams by sporting face paint, ribbons, balloons and bringing spirit and cheers. This year was no exception, and the weather was beautiful for the day’s events.

Area soccer players from 3 to 17 years of age gathered on the pitch to face their worthy opponents and friends.

Division III (7-to-10-year olds)

Bowes Imaging in its first game of the day won a tough battle against Tyler’s Ice Cream 5-3. Sam Waterman captured all three goals for Tyler’s. Bowes lead scorer Cole Pearson with three goals, had scoring assistance from Byron Law and Jack Love, each with a goal.

The second game on the big field found AMI Donuts kick its way to the win against Miller Electric. Anthony Monetti led the team with three goals, followed by Thomas Heckler with two goals. Lincoln Sauls added one goal. Despite the valiant attempt by Miller Electric, AMI Donuts won 0-6.

At high noon, Bowes Imaging found itself in its second game of the day against Gulf Bay Realty. The lone scorer for Bowes, Cole Pearson, led the team to its 7-4 victory. Gulf Bay Realty kept it close with a goal by Madelyn Rogers, two goals by Jeremiah Sculco and a goal by Anthony Nguyen.

Division II (11-to-13-year olds)

The four teams in this division square off starting with Sugar Beach Digital edging out The Feast. Tyler Brewer scored the two goals for Sugar Beach, and Hannah McCracken scored the single goal for The Feast in the 1-2 battle.

Next on the field was Jen Crady Massage versus Smiledeep. Smiledeep completed the regular season undefeated, but found a worthy opponent in the Jen Crady Massage team. Sean Rodriguez scored the single goal for Jen Crady Massage, while Ava Zink and Jackie Schlossberg each had a goal for Smiledeep, leading to its 1-2 win.

Division III (14-to-17-year olds)

In the final game of the afternoon, Wash Family Construction suffered a defeat against AMI Fitness. In this close game, Lucan Heffernan scored two goals for AMI Fitness and Nico Calleja scored one goal for Wash Family Construction. The 1-2 victory for AMI Fitness closed out another wonderful day of soccer on the Island.

The awards ceremony celebrating the accomplishments of the teams and players takes place on Nov. 5. Playoffs begin this week leading to the championship games the week of Nov. 10.
