The first ever Sun sports adult league Game of the Week proved worthy of its entitlement. On adult sports Thursday night at the Community Center, Back Alley played Ross Built Construction. For the first 10 minutes, both teams battled back and forth playing very controlled soccer. The teams used excellent passing and patience waiting for just the right time to strike. Ross Built’s defense, anchored by Rich Bell, Darrin Wash and goalie Dave Johnston, kept Back Alley at bay. Until a shot by David Greene deflected off the post and onto the foot of Erin Vogel who finished it for Back Alley’s first goal. With 10 seconds left to play in the half, Back Alley struck again. A beautiful center pass from Amy Talucci to Justin Noyes gave their team a 2-0 lead at the half. A pumped up Ross Built team came out in the second half and put the offensive pressure on. Greg Ross, Blair Schlossberg and Teddy Louloudes fired shot after shot on goalie Nate Talucci and defender Tim Tedesco. Finally, they nailed one into the back of the net on a great lead pass by Schlossberg to Louloudes for their first goal. The excitement continued to the very end. Ross Built kept the offensive pressure on and held Back Alley scoreless the entire 2nd half, but in the end the Back Alley defense held tough and won the game 2 to 1.

Division III (8-9-year olds)

Fran Maxon Real Estate remains the team to beat in this division as they pick up 2 more wins this week. The first win came from a 6-1 victory over the Jessie’s Island Store team. An unselfish Fran Maxon offensive attack led to Taro DeHaan scoring 2 goals, Josh Class scored 1, Allie Connelly scored 1 and Sean Quattromani scored his first of the season. The lone goal for Jessie’s came from an excellent shot from William Bernett. Fran Maxon’s second win was a shutout against Connie’s Landscaping. Fran Maxon’s superb defense kept the offensive attack of Connie’s Landscaping led by Corbin Gregg, Jaclyn Schlossberg and Rory Welch out of the net the entire game. Goals for Fran Maxon were scored by Josh Class who had three and Sean Quattromani with 1.

Division II (10-11-year olds)

Two upsets highlight the action this week in this division. The biggest upset was when Mr. Bones handed Sparks Steel Art their first loss of the season 4-3. In exciting fashion Leo Rose for the Bones team proved to be too much for Sparks and scored 3 goals while Ben Connors chipped in with 1. Try as he might, Dylan Joseph scored all 3 goals for Sparks but in the end it wasn’t enough. The second upset came when a much improved Wash Family Construction team defeated Southern Greens 4-1. Nico Colleja and Gavin Sentman continue showing their goal scoring abilities by each getting two goals for Wash. Southern Greens only goal came from Reese Helvey. Sparks bounced back and won its second game of the week 4-1 over Wash Family Construction. Tyler Yavalar and Dylan Joseph each score to goals in the win. Gavin Sentman scored for Wash.

Southern Green also bounced back and won a tight match with Mr. Bones 2-1. Aiden Grumley and Michael Latimer each scored a goal for Southern Greens, while Ben Connors scored for Mr. Bones. Keep an eye on this division. There is no clear runaway favorite yet here.

Division I (12-13-year-olds)

Autoway Ford and Mike Norman Realty remain tied for first place, and each picked up a win over the Gathering Place team. The Mike Norman team won 3-1 over The Gathering Place. Two goals by Morgan Greig and one by Michael Duffman helped Mike Norman get past the one goal by Kieran Grumley. Autoway Ford shut out The Gathering Place 3-0 with the help of strong defense led by Sibella Glavan, Julia Ware and Mikayla Kane in goal. Autoway Ford goals were scored by Neil Carper with two and one goal by Sydney Cornell.

Premier (14-17-year-olds)

West Coast Surf Shop picked up two important wins this week and now there is a three-way tie for first place. In the first game, West Coast Surf Shop knocked off first place Beach Bistro in a close 9-8 game. Helio Gomez dominated the offensive end with six goals, mostly coming from the unselfish passing of Chandler Hardy, who also scored two. J.T Goode added the other goal in the win. Beach Bistro goals by Phillip Biddulph and Julius Gomes, each with four, were not enough. West Coast Surf picked up its second win of the week over Wash Family Construction 10-2. Stellar defense led by Dina Gomez and Rainia Lardas and goal tending by Chandler Hardy and J.T Goode kept the Wash team to just two goals from Austin Wash. Chandler Hardy had five goals, one of which came from a big boot from the goalie position, Helio Gomez had four and J.T Goode had one for West Coast Surf and the win.

Adult Co-Ed (21 and up)

Sarasota Veterinary Emergency Hospital team remaind unbeaten as it won 4-2 over The Fish Hole team. The superb passing and all around great team play led to two goals by Paul Hayward, one goal by Danielle Moore and one by Kris Yavalar. It was a great game and was tied 2-2 for the majority of time, but in the end one goal from The Fish Hole players Ryan Moss and Josh Sato was not enough. The last game of adult Thursday night featured the Island Sun team defeating Beach to Bay Construction 4-2. Beach to Bay struck first with a sweet goal by Enrico Beissert. After that the Sun team tightened up its defense, led by Tyler Bekkerus, Andy Jonatzke and Emily King and did not give up another goal until eight minutes left in the game. After Beach to Bay’s first goal, the Island Sun answered back with a powerful shot from Damir Glavan that deflected in to tie the game. A few minutes later a long pass from Tyler Bekkerus to Ryan Hogan who headed it in for the go ahead goal and it was 2-1 at half. In the second half, Damir Glavan scored his second goal and Zoran Kolega added another to give The Sun a 4-1 lead. Beissert answered back with one more goal for Beach to Bay and leaves the final score 4-2.
