In the Community Center’s first week of soccer action, The Sun Sports Game of the Week ended in dramatic fashion. On Wednesday in the 12- to 13-year-old division, Autoway Ford played Mike Norman Realty in its first regular season game. Loyal fans were rewarded on this rainy night with a fantastic come-backer finish. Mike Norman Realty dominated the first half of play with superb defense led by Morgan Greig and Kayla Thiel and high powered offense with two goals by Lauren Sapienza and one each by Michael Duffman and Logan Reiber. The score at the half was 4 to 1.

The domination continued in the second half until, with a little more then seven minutes left in the half, the tide changed to the Autoway side of the ball. Two quick goals by Henrick Brusso and Neil Carper and a game tying slippery wet ball goal by Francesca Parkin, and all of a sudden the momentum swung to Autoway and the game was tied 4-4. With less than two minutes left in the game, a picture perfect giveand- go pass from Neil Carper back to Sydney Cornell found the ball in the back of the net for her second goal of the game and Autoway Ford was victorious.

It’s worth noting though that the stingy defense of Autoway, led by Sibella Glavan and anchored by former goalie of the year Mikayla Kane, shut out the high powered offensive attack of Mike Norman’s team in the entire second half. Autoway coach Damir Glavan said after the game, “It was a close and exciting game. The kids on both sides played awesome. I hope they’re all like this.”

Division III (8-9-year-olds) Fran Maxon Real Estate defeats Jessie’s Island Store 5 to 1. Fran Maxon’s high-scoring duo of Josh Class and Taro DeHaan each had two goals, while Allie Connelly added the other. Gerardo Serrduo scored the lone goal for Jessie’s. In the Friday night game, Jessie’s bounced back with a 4-0 win over Connie’s Landscaping. Great defense by Noah Fischer, Tori Coover and Charlotte Pardue produced the shutout and a diverse offensive attack with single goals by Jack Barnes, Hannah McCracken, Daniel Sentman and Serrduo helped Jessie’s get its first win.

Division II (10-11-year-olds) The opening night of the regular season saw Mr. Bones BBQ pick up its first win over Wash Family Construction 6 to 4. Ben Connors and Jake Miller each had two goals and Leo Rose and Nicole Sewall each added a goal to seal the win for Mr. Bones. Nico Colleja, Michael Datolli, Madison Gunn and Gavin Sentman each had a goal for Wash Family. In other action, Southern Green battled back from a 3 to 0 score at halftime against Sparks Steel Art to score seven secondhalf goals and tie with Sparks 7 to 7. One of Southern Green’s goals came on a picture perfect header to the back of the net by Reese Helvey from a corner kick pass by Michael Latimer. Latimer ended with five goals and Helvey two. Tyler Yavalar led Sparks with four goals, Dylan Joseph added two and Brooke Capperalli had one. On Friday night, solid goal tending by Brendon Murphy, along with five goals by Latimer and one by Jean- Paul Russo helped Southern Green to a 6 to 3 win over Wash Family Construction. Nico Colleja, Madison Gunn and Gavin Sentman each had a goal for Wash Family. In the second game, Sparks Steel Art won 3 to 1 over Mr. Bones. Yavalar had two goals for Sparks and Joseph added another. Willow Cooper got her first goal for Mr. Bones.

Division I (12-13-year-olds) Autoway Ford picked up its second win of the week by defeating The Gathering Place team 5 to 1. A hat-trick three-goal night for Henrick Brusso and two more by Neil Carper for Autoway was all it took. Blaine Jenefsky scored the only goal for The Gathering Place. Autoway's defense seems to be the key to a fast 2 and 0 start.

Premier (14-17-year-olds) Wash Family Construction’s Premier team held off a late Beach Bistro push to win 9-8 in a very exciting and high scoring game. Austin Wash led the way with four goals, Daniel Pimential added three and Elijah Clay-Chapman added two in the win. Four goals by Beach Bistro player Julius Gomes, two by Max Miller, one by Samantha Latimer and one by Hunter Parrish were not enough. Beach Bistro bounced back though in its second game on Thursday defeating West Coast Surf Shop 2 to 1. It was a tight defensive game led by solid goaltending by Miller for the Bistro team and Jack Titsworth for West Coast Surf. Other defensive standouts were Phillip Biddulph, Gussie and Rainia Lardas, and J T Goode. Two goals by Julius Gomes proved to be enough over a valiant effort and a lone goal from Chandler Hardy.
