Wet, cooler weather suits golfers

Despite the onslaught of storms, golfers at Key Royale Club are getting in their share of time on the greens. There were few proxies in the tournaments last week.

Danny Hayes, Austin Rice, Bob King and Ralph Bassett took first place in the men’s weekly nine-hole handicap tournament on Monday, June 1, with a best-ball-of-foursome score of 25. Three teams tied for second place with scores of 27. They were Peiter Thomassen, Vince Mercadante, Earl Huntzinger and Jim Thornton; Gordon McKinna, Fred Meyer, Jim Finn and Bob Dickinson; and Matt Behan, Bob Mullin, Charley Knopp and a proxy.

Bob Kral took first place in the men’s 18-hole handicap tournament on Wednesday, June 3, with a score of 59. Second place went to Bob Jorgensen with a 63, third place to Dick Grimme with a 64 and fourth place to Vince Mercadante with a 65.

Barbara Estok, Sylvia Price, Chaz McMullin and Moon Mullen came in first in the monthly mixed scramble on Friday, June 5, with a low-team-net score of 21. Margaret Ksiazek, Erma McMullen, Bob Dickinson and Larry Fowler took second place with a 22 and Joyce Reith, Nancy Grimme, Rosewitha Fowler and Dick Grimme came in third with a 23.

Charlie Knopp had a chip-in on the ninth hole and Matt Behan had one on the sixth. Moon Mullen was closest to the pin on the first hole and Bev Neville was closest to the pin on the eighth hole.
