Horseshoe season winding down

The season is winding down as was evidenced by the reduced number of people at the pits. There were only five teams waiting for the available five pits on Wednesday, April 1. Only two teams achieved playoff status. Adin Shank and Bruce Monroe teamed to defeat Bob Regan and Sam Samuels in a nip and tuck battle. The final score was 21 to 19, a game which the the effects of the Monday night fish fry party were evident. We said farewell to several New Englanders and wished them safe a trip.

Saturday, April 4, saw five waiting teams and a walker, with four teams qualifying for the playoffs. In the first round, Norm Good and Ron Pepka (returning from his injury) bested Debbie Rhodes and Herb Puryear by a score of 23 to 17. In the second game, Jim McMahon and Martin Ganjemi out dueled Hank Huygne and Rob Bass 21 to 18. In the finale, Good carried Pepka to an easy win over McMahon and Ganjemi 21 to12.

Play gets underway each Wednesday and Saturday at 9 a.m. at Anna Maria City Hall. Come early for practice. All are welcome.
