ANNA MARIA – The Smurfs are coming to City Pier Park in Anna Maria.
As part of Anna Maria city officials’ continued efforts to better utilize the waterfront park, the city will host a free outdoor screening of “Smurfs: The Lost Village” on Wednesday, Jan. 17 at 7 p.m.
Starring Demi Lovato, Rainn Wilson, Mandy Patinkin and Julia Roberts, the 2017 animated family film tells the tale of a mysterious map that inspires Smurfette, Brainy, Clumsy and Hefty to find a lost village before their nemesis, Gargamel, beats them to it.
City Pier Park is located across the street from the Anna Maria City Pier at the corner of Pine Avenue and South Bay Boulevard. Attendees are asked to bring their own chairs, blankets, snacks and drinks.
Wednesday’s movie will be the first in a recurring series of free movie screenings presented at City Pier Park.
Last year, the city added restrooms and a shade sail structure to the park. Memorial walls made of engraved wooden pier planks are expected to be added to the park in the coming year.
