Subject: Shark Fishing/Bradenton Beach
Comments: The Bradenton Beach police chief needs to patrol near the Dream Inn. On many occasions, a group of young men gather to shark fish. They often go out in kayaks to drop the bait. They set up
huge fishing poles in the sand, with huge hooks just a few feet from the water. I have seen people run into the fishing line while they are walking...dangerous. One lady did get cut one evening while we were that at sunset. They pay no mind to the families on the beach while they are setting up. I saw a family surrounded by their equipment one evening and the family finally gathered their small children and left the beach. Ask Police Chief Speciale to pay more attention in this area...please. These young men were just out there last Sunday evening...right at sunset...clearly parked in the Dream Inn parking area which clearly states parking for their customers only. They are a danger because they have no regard for others.

Comments: Ruth Richardson is absolutely correct. Finally the mayors are stepping up to the plate and doing something. As far as beach re nourishment;if they keep the same number of PAID or FREE parking spaces re nourishment funding will not be effected. Enforcement needs to be increased. The chief at AMPD is going to the schools for more money.Another new one will be FORCED to come out here. Maybe its time we opted for Chief Kenney, Lt Damato and Sargent Dangler again.Get some old hands to do new enforcement out here.

Subject: Permit Parking
Comments: The comments by people, including the mayor, opposing permit parking and calling us a "gated"community are laughable if not sad. I wonder how many of these protesters from Bradenton and Lakewood Ranch actually live in gated communities.
The Congestion Committee worked very hard and identified hundreds of available beach parking spaces, so we could still qualify for beach renourishment. Has Ed Hunzeker increased the required number of spaces?
My fear is that those families who live yearround near the beach (many of whom worked with the Committee) and are subject to these unsafe and intrusive situations will give up. They will sell and move off the island and be replaced by minimotels and, yes, huge gated enclaves such as you see around White, Park and Beach Avenues. What will Hunzeker say then about beach renourishment?

Comments: Well maybe you will get what you deserve
no Beach Renourishment.You want to
control everyone that visits your
island telling them they can't park,
there is curfues for everything.They
threaten everyone with heafty fines.
Threats,Threats,Threats. If that is the way they want that's fine.Let the
beach erosion began,let the bridges
disintagrate along with the roads.
If they want to be a separate Country
let those that make up these goofy rules
pay there own upkeep.

Subject: Parking situation
Comments: I have noticed residents upset about parking/advertising. I understand the complaints. Unfortunately, regarding the parking, the city has swung the pendulum too far the other way. Most residents enjoy family visiting, and my son-in-law, who has visited numerous times and has donated significantly do local charities, received a ticket for parking that was unjust. I was shocked frankly after researching how much the parking tickets issued have risen in the last few years. Not every visitor to the island brings a negative influence, in fact, most patronage is appreciated. I think the city should pay attention to this parking issue with a different approach.

Subject: Woman posing as caregiver on island
Comments: I had posted a listing for a medical caregiver for my mother . I received many replies. Interviewed a woman who said she had much med experience. Turns out not a stitch of knowledge and she immediately began to refer to my mother as mommy. My mom having dementia , this confused her . the woman who we will just for now call SARAH of Filipino heritage was asked to stop doing that refused, was raising her voice to me s if she was the family member, attempting to have my mother side with her against me and my brothers. All I can say is we are now pressing charges. Please anyone who comes across this woman, do not engage her. Do not return her calls or emails for healthcare. She does not have. Level 2 or 3 FBI background check even though she claims to and no fingerprints on file. She will also attempt to bring her other "friends" onboard. Who are as ill equipped as she is. Be cautious when hiring caregivers for family. Be sure they have background checks. iT is Florida law.

Subject: Egmont cemetery mysteries put to rest
Comments: I am the great granddaughter of Capt Carl William Bahrt (name could be William Carl Bahrt) who lived in Fogartyville in the late 1800's. I am so grateful to the reporter for a beautifully written and researched article. The location of these graves and records of their lives are mysteries that are unfolding with the efforts expended in finding documents, photos and articles. I only hope there are others out there who might have more information to share as well!

Thanks again for a great article!

Comments: I was grateful to read the article in your paper re: Azaline Bahrt and the burial places of the Bahrt family. This has been a long story for a number of years and seeing it in print was indeed fulfilling. We are continuing to keep this story alive by searching for information that will lead to more facts regarding Captain Carl William Bahrt and his early days as one of the pioneers in Fogartyville (Bradenton).

Comments: Everyone should bring inflateable beds
You could leave your cars in Bradenton.
The renter could pick you up by the car loads and most likely you could get up
to thirty people in a two bedroom unit.

Subject: Lower Speed Limit on Palm Dr
Comments: The highest speed limit in Anna Maria is 25 MPH and where Palm and Marina meet, it is also 25 MPH. Palm Dr. is all residential. There is no commercial activity on Palm Dr. SO WHY DOES CHIEF TOKAJER STILL ALLOW 35 MPH ON PALM DR?

This morning I heard the screeching of tires in front of my home along Palm Dr. A woman was speeding and did not see a couple crossing the street with their dog. To say that the man used colorful language to express his anger is an understatement.

Later this afternoon, a car was turning onto 75th st and the construction truck behind him slammed on his brakes to avoid hitting the car. Why...because he was speeding.

PALM DRIVE IS ALL RESIDENTIAL. WHY ON EARTH WOULD CHIEF TOKAJER HESITATE IN REDUCING THE SPEED LIMIT ON PALM DR TO 25 MPH??

If people are in a hurry to get to and from Anna Maria, then they should simply leave earlier. Palm Drive is not a mini-highway. Families live on both sides, and it is dangerous to cross.

The support is there for all of Holmes Beach to be 25 MPH and Chief Tokajer has done a great job in reducing the speed on Marina drive and also by the elementary school, but PLEASE do not stop there. In the meantime, put up a speed radar or something please.

WORST SPEED ABUSERS:
1. Construction / Landscaping vehicles
2. Youth
3. Island Trolleys
