Comments: We are presently staying at the property with the treehouse. I am appalled that the city woukd even consider taking this beautifully done tree house down. Seriously who in the world would find it offensive in any way? It adds character to the beach and people love it. While sitting in a chair by the treehouse the amount of tourists who show up to take pictures and comment on how wonderful it is is astounding. Why rake simple pleasures away from the people? Why pick on local businesses who pride themselves on having such a work of art on their property. I don't cars if it was done illegally, it is safe and beautiful and insane to think about taking it down just because. Please rethink this. It's crazy and brings joy to so many.

Comments: I fully support the continuation of the tree house. I believ3e it was the right decision for Richard and Lynn to make. There are many habitable properties on this island that are legal and nonconforming. This is a nonhabitable structure that was built safely and is used only by Lynn and Richard for their personal use. Why can't the city make one allowance for this structure

Comments: Once again there is word that a woman of Filipino descent is on island attempting to gain employment as a caregiver or housekeeper. She goes by aliases of Aileen nalion , Sarah nalion and Sarah Moore. This woman is not a caregiver and has been known to take advantage of the elderly. If you come in contact such as applicant for job DO NOT allow her in your home.

Comments: My family and I would like to express our deepest appreciation and gratitude to an “Island Angel” who came to our rescue while we were visiting Anna Maria Island.

We found ourselves stuck on the side of the road when our rental car, with no spare tire, developed a flat tire.

Suddenly, out of nowhere, Jeff Petitt appeared, found a screw in our tire, removed it, repaired the hole and re-inflated the tire with his air compressor.

Out of the kindness and goodness of his heart, he spent an hour of his time and got us back on the road so that we could enjoy our day.

Please reward him by using his family businesses: Manatee Real Estate Services and Salon Salon.

Subject: Outbreak? Again?
Comments: For a second consecutive week the Anna Maria Island News has used the word "outbreak" to describe the Holmes Beach dog park and possible giardia cases. Once again, I believe this to be an exaggeration of conditions at the dog park. It's bordering on fear-mongering at this point. Non-symptomatic giardia is common in dogs. To my knowledge, there have been less than a handful of Giardia diagnoses in dogs that attend the Holmes Beach dog park. I do not believe that any of the Giardia diagnoses have been attributed solely to the dog park. The Giardia protozoa is found in water. The leap to assume the Giardia came from dog bowls and/or dog feces within the park is a large one, considering the amount of stagnant water pools found along sidewalks throughout the island. This is not to suggest there is Giardia in pools of water along sidewalks, but it is at least as possible that the Giardia would be present there as it would be in dog bowls at the dog park. The Sun is reporting facts not in evidence, and is inflaming those. Please report accurately.

Subject: Perception of conditions at Holmes Beach Dog Park
Comments: Many who frequently use the Holmes Beach Dog Park are concerned about the recent reaction to giardia in dogs who visit the park. We feel your “In Brief” article of Oct. 21 sensationalized and presented a skewed perspective of the “outbreak of giardia”.

We have two major concerns.

To say there is an outbreak is an exaggeration. Some dogs recently had giardia confirmed, but to our knowledge, only two were at any risk. Guardia is in many dogs, who never show symptoms. Diarrhea is listed in most literature as the prime symptom for dogs who present with giardia. Holmes Beach Human Resource Advisor Mary Buonagura was quoted as saying “dogs can die from non-treatment”. Non-treatment of any illness can be fatal. I haven’t met anyone at anytime at the park who wouldn’t immediately seek treatment for any injury or sickness to their pet. Diarrhea from giardia is said to be caused primarily by unsafe water and neglected feces. I walk the length of the park each time I visit and collect and discard of unnoticed feces. There are many others who do the same. Very seldom do I see diarrhea. We feel the Holmes Beach dog park is a wonderful place to relax and let our dogs socialize. We also feel it is a safe place, much more so than other options in the area. Your brief mention of the park last week presented a view of the park as unsafe and dangerous. “Outbreak” and “highly infectious” are words that grab attention. We don’t consider this an outbreak of any sort. Bringing your dog to the Holmes Beach dog park is a choice and a personal responsibility. We feel it is by far the best choice for off-leash fun nearby.

Many are also concerned about the complete lack of notice and explanation for closing the park from Oct. 15-21. It makes for a vacuum of information that leads to exaggerations. “Closed for maintenance” was our only signage or notice. Did Ms. Buonagura make this decision herself? On what basis? Was she advised by a veterinarian? No one at the park as far as I know had any knowledge or input. Frankly, I personally feel it is disappointing no due diligence was done by talking with the people who know the park. It makes many, including myself, feel neglected.

Comments: I have asked this question several times and apparently no one knows the answer.
How is a "lodge" different than a "hotel"?
If hotels are not allowed at the beach then why is a lodge allowed. It is no different than a hotel.

Comments: I am not sure but Tom Sam seems a lot like a dig for the Public Works Director and Police Chief or maybe just a cheap creative acronym. Not too creative. But non the less.... This is just typical of you people to sling mud...Stacy Norton, if not mistaken the same Stacy Norton that owns a business in Holmes Beach. Sometimes people do help others in a rough time and that is all of the qualifications they need. A City that can rely on each other and work well together should be recognized...NOT criticized. Apparently this is not a group I would want to rely on for sure. That is what is called team work. This is a concept that many successful cities have, to keep daily operations afloat. Unfortunately some people cant grasp that concept which this is why we have these narrow minded comments. I don't think people have so much noticed what the Sun has written but, I as well as others I have talked to, have noticed how thin the I-slander is compared to the Sun. People are taking their advertisements out of the I-slander and put it with a more respectable paper. The writing of the Sun paper is pretty level, not so much in the I-slander. The juicer the story the more twisted it gets with them. I bet you that if you did a little information gathering you would find out why the former employees aren't there ....but that would require an open mind, which there seems to be a shortage of by reading these "delusional"comments. If you have one good egg there are bound to be a few bad ones. The City Clerk has cleaned up the dirty "Toilets" and it smells lemony fresh again. I don't know why you use the phrase "power hungry Mayor".. That was the previous Mayor. This city has spoken with the recall and it seems they aren't going go down in the Titanic but they are going to rise above and surf the wave of life. But the small minded group of trouble makers that keep anchoring down, you are more than welcome to board the ship and kiss your a** goodbye. We don't need any depressive little pirates around here.

Comments: I hear you TomSam. My vote went to Clarke in the recall. Clearly I made a mistake. Our new mayor can not judge the qualifications of his employees. I will be correcting that mistake in November.

Comments: TomSam you are right, they did hire someone from one of those departments to help in the Clerks office... The lady that cleans the toilets. But why not, she seems just as qualified as the "New Nora" is... What a joke! Wake up Bradenton Beach the problem you have is the power hungry Mayor and the incompetent City Clerk. This paper better realize people are noticing you are picking and choosing what to write out of your favoritism for this new group in charge. Bradenton Beach is the laughing stock of Manatee County...
