Subject: fishing Line
Comments: Darlene , I wasn't talking about the beach. And I happen to like tourist very much so please don't play that card. I help lots of them get their lines untangled from our trees because I like to help them out. I also happen to have a view of many rentals docks that I personally see kids mostly but adults as well on vacation getting hooked in our mangrove trees that keeps me quite busy cleaning up after they leave. You want to know how many times? too many ! I'm not a tourist hater like you think. I'm a monofilament left in trees hater. I also clean up monofilament in other places all the time and get mad at locals for leaving a mess too. Everybody Please Fish Responsibly!!! Fishing Line takes up to 600 years to decompose. The only finger pointing I'm doing is at snagged fishing line. Look there's some more on that branch!

Subject: How bad is the traffic on the island?
Comments: Traffic to AMI from Cortez and traffic from Bradenton Beach to Cortez Road via the Cortez Bridge is dangerous. It is not the bridge, but the road design, limited lanes, and stoplight that need to be re-engineered for safe and efficient travel on and off the island.

Comments: How many times have you personally
observed a tourist or owners leaving
Fish hooks on the beach. You just
assume it's a tourist because you
don't like them.I grew up on the Island
for 19 years,before I went to school
and got married. That same problem went
on in the early sixties, long before
any tourist stepped foot on the island.
People from all over the area would
come out to the causeway and Bean Point
and fish.I do agree this needs to be
addressed, but don't be so quick to point

Subject: fishing line left by vacation rentals
Comments: Comment section. While paddling up the Tarpon Ave canal I am shocked to see how much fishing line with hooks are left behind from the vacation rentals on that street alone. I clean it up routinely because I love birds but how come the owners or renters don't ever. This is a huge negative impact to our island ecosystem. Of course not a dime is spent for an informative sign on the rentals docks to warn the renters of the damage it causes to our wildlife. These owners and realators who profit should be held responsible for this weekly littering and made to pick up their trash routinely from the trees.after each renter has left. I find it disgusting to see our mangrove trees entangled with monofilament. You rent for big bucks, pay or get off your butt and clean up your mess. Littering is a crime and deadly to our birds and manatees who live in these canals.

Comments: I agree with Jerry and disagree that everyone likes the piper. The people who don't like him aren't going to boo. I don't want to hear anyone's music on the beach. That's what ear buds are for. I was there one night and while departing I complimented the piper and asked if he would be there every night. I haven't been back since. If I was staying within earshot I would ask him to stop. Who wants to listen to someone else's music?

Comments: SueLynn is whining again! The City of Anna Maria did try to institute a 30 day minimum on rentals but would have been stymied by the law. Imagine that. Her only complaint really is that she never met Senator Thrasher. So what? Best practices is working. Stop whining. The email is pointing out that the city officials want power over the residents and their ability to rent their properties. Work on the parking situation instead.

Subject: The Pipes
Comments: I apologize to any and all I may have offended. The people have spoken. The recent audiences and applause indicate a majority enjoy the pipes. I will "relax" and move my sunset viewing spot. Even though I still believe rules are rules. And if it were a bunch kids playing rap music on boom boxes the majority would feel differently.

Subject: pipes are calling
Comments: Hi, I'm the 77th street bagpiper mentioned in the ami sun February 12. Since I wouldn't want to spoil someone's sunset, I think a good compromise is that I play immediately after the sun goes down and for fifteen minutes only. All would have a peaceful and quiet sunset, while allowing me to play for myself and my friends. Agreeable??
This is where and when I'll be for those who want to hear the pipes.. Amazing Grace, Over the Sea to Skye, Scarlet Ribbons, Highland Cathedral, Faith of our Fathers, Scotland the Brave and more !

Comments: If I may offer the writer a word of advice: RELAX.
The piper has been there for several years, and I gather is a popular sunset sight, and sound. Yes, you may have the code on your side, but 150 yards is a fair distance. Perhaps you could hone your diplomatic skills by asking him to move further toward the water to assuage your sensitivities.

Subject: "excessive noise" on the beach
Comments: I frequent the 77th st access in Holmes beach to view the sunset. Recently a bagpiper has chosen this spot to play his bagpipes as the sun sets. Actually that isn't totally accurate. He starts playing the bagpipes 20 minutes before the sun sets and stops only when the sun has set. I'm here for 3 months and the sun sets to me are a special time. One where an individual can reflect, or if one chooses to talk with friends or other sun set viewers. I live 150 yards from the beach, and I can hear the pipes from my house. To me that is "excessive noise" which is clearly prohibited and clearly stated on a sign as you enter the beach access. I really don't know what to do ? Call the police, walk a half a mile down the beach, talk to the individual and ask for a compromise. "How about you play ONLY from when the sun hits the water until it sets". I'm not really a good diplomat so I don't know if while talking to him I could avoid a critique of his bagpipe expertise. I would appreciate hearing from others as to what they think. Please Remember I'm here 3 months this isn't a "one night stand" with a sun set.
