AMICC youth basketball 8-10-year-old champions:
Beach Bums team
The Anna Maria Island Community Center youth spring sports season has now been concluded. On Friday night, all three youth division basketball championship games were played. On Saturday morning, the youth baseball champions were crowned World Series victors.
In the 8-10-year-old youth basketball league, the Beach Bums team defeated the Island Real Estate team by a score of 17 to 4. Sean Rodriguez led the scoring with 10 points. Male MVP award winner, David Daigle added three points. Jack Proctor and Nick Yatros each added two points for the Beach Bums team championship victory. For the Island Real Estate team, sportsmanship award winner Shawn Balvin scored all four points for his team.
In the 11-13-year-old basketball league, the number two seeded Bridge Tender Inn team defeated the number one ranked Eat Here team by a score of 42 to 33. Male MVP award winner, Michael Lattimer, had his best game of the year and scored 34 of the 42 points. Leo Tilelli added four points. Daniel Sentman and Jasmine Walsh each pitched in with two points for the Bridge Tender Inn championship win. Leo Rose scored 12 points; Matt Manger scored 10 points; Andrew Proctor scored eight points; Paige Charron scored two points and Noah Heskin scored one point for the Eat Here team.
In the 14-17-year-old basketball league, the number two seeded Dips Ice Cream team defeated the number five ranked Heritage Paper Company team by a score of 75 to 55. Male MVP award winner, Christian Hampton, had a double-double with 25 points and 10 rebounds. Jake Parsons scored 12 points. Defensive MVP award winner, Josh Ruckteshell, scored 10 points and 7 rebounds. Connor Field added eight points and 10 rebounds. Edward Cullinan scored four points. Lucan Heffernan and Jake Ross each scored two points for the Championship victory.
For the Heritage Paper Company team, sportsmanship award winner, Burk Hill, scored 21 points. Sam Cuva had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Josh Parrish added 10 points. Cameron Brauner and Mikey Ellsworth each added three points and Alex Rodriguez chipped in with two points.
Air Energy Baseball World Series Champs
The Anna Maria Island Community Center’s youth baseball season concluded Saturday morning when the one and seven Air & Energy team upset the seven and one AMI Hammerheads by a definitive score of 12 to 3.
The AMI Hammerheads dominated the regular season and deserve a lot of credit, but in the championship game the Air & Energy team stepped up to the plate and pulled off the upset victory. Fans were quoted in saying, “That’s why they play the game.”
