Horseshoe action heats up

From the December 16, 2009 Issue

We went from warm weather to cold weather and back again last week, but the horseshoe players at Anna Maria City Hall remained hot.

Four teams emerged from the contests on Wednesday, Dec. 9, to qualify for playoffs.

In the first semifinal, the duo of Norm Good and Paul Sheatler easily handled Jeff Moore and John Crawford 21-11. The second semi was no contest as Bruce Munro and Rod Bussey routed Fritz Erdrich and Bruce Wagner 21-4.

The final was a tight match but in the end, Munro and Bussey outdueled Good and Sheatler 21-17.

One team dominated the action on Saturday, Dec. 12. Herb Puryear and Jeff Moore ended the day with a perfect 3-0 tally.

Three teams qualified for runner-up honors. In the first match, John Crawford and Paul Sheatler defeated John Johnson and Steve Doyle 21-11. In the second match, once again the duo of Crawford and Sheatler bested Fritz Erdrich and Bruce Wagner 21-10, solidifying second place.

Play gets under way at 8:45 each Wednesday and Saturday at the Anna Maria City Hall pits with random partner selection shortly thereafter. Everyone is welcome and there is no charge to play. Happy shoeing!
