Horseshoe tossers seek new challenges

If you’re looking for an opportunity to compete, the regulars at the Anna Maria City Hall horseshoe pits would like to meet you, They compete on Wednesday and Saturday morning, Warm-ups begin at 8:45 a.m.

Only two teams earned the right to do battle for the winged trophie on Wednesday, Jan. 7. Kentucky native Rod Bussey teamed with Al Norman to easily defeat Art Kinstad and Doyle Starkey, by a score of 21 to 13.

Four teams achieved the magic three wins to advance on Saturday, Jan. 10. In the first round of playoffs, Norm Good and Fritz Erdrich defeated Herb Puryear and Doyle Starkey 22 to 18 in a seesaw battle. The second preliminary playoff saw Art Kingstad and John Johnson easily defeat Bob Rela and Gene (Horse shoe Shirt) Bobledyk, by a score of 21 to 12. The final saw Kingstad and Johnson beat Good and Erdrich, in a close game – 22 to 1
