Mr. Bones, West Coast Air runaway division leaders
SUN PHOTO/CHRIS GRUMLEY Division 3 is instructional but is more free
flowing among 6-7 year olds now that younger 4-5 year old players
have their own division. Coaches are still allowed on the field to
offer advice and direction.
Danish soccer superstar Michael Laudrup was in the Real Madrid squad when it beat rivals Barcelona 5-0 and also appeared in the Barcelona squad when it beat Real Madrid 5-0. To quote Scottish legend and 80's TV pundit, Jimmy Greaves, "It's a funny old game!"
It's no surprise that the two teams still unbeaten are runaway leaders in their respective divisions. In Division II it's Mr. Bones with five wins out of five and West Coast Air head the Premier Division with five wins and a tie. It's all to play for in division one and the battle between Mike Norman Realty and Ross Built will be played out until the end of the season.
Ross Built 6 -
Island Real Estate 3
Jake Ross is on fire and seemingly unstoppable, slotting home four goals in this game played early on Saturday morning. There is a rivalry between these two teams and although Ross Built seem clear at the top of the division there is still a chance Island Real Estate could turn its season around. Not here thoughand not a against a resilient defense that did allow Ray Fano two and Neil Carper one. The Ross defense finally shut the door on Fano, who can score goals from some unbelievable angles, and let its offense tak center stage. Also on target for Ross Built were Andrew Ross and a tireless Madison Gsell.
Mike Norman Realty
3 - Autoway Ford 2
Coach Scott Dell realizes all the potential available to him in his Autoway squad. Shrewd with his positional choices it is a side that has nearly found form and will become a force to be reckoned with. Goals from Josh Zawistoski and Henrik Brusso were not enough on this occasion though, a superb hat trick from Mikey Ellsworth made sure Mike Norman stays in the hunt. Ellsworth is the surprise package this season, fast paced, skillful and with a natural eye for goal.
West Coast Air 9 -
Wash Family Construction 1
Yes, you read that right, a score resembling that of a one sided baseball game as Coach Bill Bystrom took advantage of a depleted Wash family side. Wash Family is no pushover, this is only its second loss from five games, but with key players missing from its ranks it was a rout. Max Miller, Chandler Hardy and William Brusso bagged two goals each as Trevor Bystrom scored three. The lone goal for Wash family came from Chris Callahan and Coach Hightower will be glad to put this one behind her.
Island Real Estate 4 -
Mike Norman Realty 2
There have been many successful duos over the years. I think of Abbott and Costello, Starsky and Hutch and Mantle and Maris but there are new kids on the block. Four goals scored here, two each, for Carper and Fano, the persistent and on form strike force of Island Real Estate. Their combined effort was enough to secure all three points against a Mike Norman team that boasts an excellent defense. Logan Reiber switched to offense late in the game to score one adding to the first half goal scored by striker Mikey Ellsworth.
Autoway Ford 5 -
Ross Built 3
Henrik Brusso nets three times for his hat trick as Autoway hand Ross Built its second loss of the season and secure all three points. In this close encounter, the Ross Boys, Jake and Andrew, stayed consistent and on target for Ross Built but goals from Autoway’s Natasha Nieckoski and Josh Zawistoski took its tally to five and its second win of the season.
Harcon Corp 4 -
Lapensee Plumbing 3
Harcon went into this game desperate for a win after losing its five opening encounters knowing full well that a loss at the hands of Lapensee would put any hope of a decent season beyond reach. Lapensee, scoring three goals, two from Vanessa Parkin with Danny Krokroskia netting one, were missing striker Jerry Meyer, but Harcon's Nicole Botero, Parrish Hunter and Chris Pate were happy to score the goals and take the points.
Mr. Bones 5 -
Coastal Orthopedic 0
Coastal Orthopedic remainS winless on the season having tied two and lost three. Coach Valadie and his players didn't have an answer to the firepower provided by the sensational Michael Latimer. Keeping Mr. Bones on top of the division, it was a hard working defense that restricted Latimer to four goals as Ben Conner grabbed himself another one. It's never about one player, it's a team sport and Mr Bones is a solid side, but its opponents have to find an answer to the offense provided each game by Latimer.
West Coast Air 6 -
Nicole Botero found the net for the second straight game, Garrison Clark and Alex Hall both scored as Harcon continue to improve. They faced a West Coast side that is happy at the top of the division and, to all intents and purposes has the skill and desire tostay there. Zach Evans powered forward from midfield to score, Chandler Hardy increased his tally on the season and Daniel Pimental helped with a goal. It was also another fine display from Trevor Bystrom netting his second hat tick of the week and itsreally easy to see why West Coast leads the division.
Coastal Orthopedic 0 -
Panoramic, under the direction of Coach Wayne Sewall, hasn't had a bad start to the season posting two wins and a loss to this point, but it failed to take advantage of a depleted and winless Coastal side that seemed ripe for the picking. Both teams lurched forward looking for a goal with Coastal desperate for its first win, but it was to no avail. The defensive units kept the strikers at bay, working hardand securing the tie. A point each was about right.
