The only team to post an unbeaten pool plays record Saturday, June 14 was the duo of John Johnson and Ron Pepka, making them outright winners for the morning. In the ensuing match for second place, George McKay, in the position of the walking team of one, bested Debbie Rhodes and Norm Good by a score of 21-11.
The following Wednesday, was a repeat of the previous session, with only Ernie Moon and Debbie Rhodes pitching perfectly to claim first place honors. Three teams tied for second, and after the dust settled, Lee Butts and Tom Rhodes went on to win two straight playoff matches and grab the runners up slot for the day. Play gets under way at 9 a.m. every Wednesday and Saturday, in the park behind Anna Maria’s City Hall building, at the corner of Gulf Drive and Pine Avenue. Warm-ups begin at 8:45, followed by random team selection just prior to play. Plenty of free parking is available and all skill levels are welcome.
