If you listen carefully, you’ll hear the buzz about the best place on the Island to find outdoor wall décor and wind chimes. The buzz is whispering, The Garden Hut, The Garden Hut, The Garden Hut as it’s carried with the wind. A little dramatic, well maybe, but The Garden Hut in Holmes Beach has been supplying Island homes with unique and interesting gifts and accessories for home and garden and just plain fun stuff for quite a while.

Seven years ago Darlene McNamara combined her years of retail experience and love of the unusual into a great shop offering not only garden ornaments and décor but also a little bit of everything. When she moved to her present location five years ago this week, she developed a loyal client base from both locals and visitors.

These days McNamara and Reily, her loyal four-legged assistant, have inventory that will tickle your funny bone. If you haven’t seen the The Garden Hut’s collection of bird houses, each one carved with a distinctive face, you’re in for a belly laugh. The most popular one, which also has the most character, is the old man with the rather large nose serving as the front door for your feathered friends. McNamara is also the exclusive Island dealer for Webkinz’s Virtual Pets, and carries Adirondack chairs, tables and benches manufactured by CRP Products. CPR products are made out of 100 percent recycled plastic, and come in fabulous colors perfect for outdoor casual Island living.

For the garden you’ll find a large collection of garden stakes including glow pops and solar, and if you need a few more birds for your yard, take a look at the Geeky Birds and Nerdy Necks. You’ll find wind chimes made from everything from bamboo to capa shell, garden flags, garden gnomes, mermaids and turtles.

McNamara loves to support local artists and includes a variety of prints and water colors by Ron Bernard and other artists, as well as lovely fused glass creations by Galene.

If you’re looking for a little something to bring to Saturday night dinner or a gift for your weekend hosts, The Garden Hut has frames, note pads, hooks and many entertaining pieces lurking in the corners. In addition, Time & Again products are sold at The Garden Hut, including skin lotions, hand crèmes, body mist scented candles and tea lights.

It was pretty clear to me that The Garden Hut grapevine is working overtime.

The day I stopped in to see McNamara, we could hardly chat. Customers were bouncing in right and left and carrying out some of McNamara’s one-of-a-kind pieces. Sometimes you just find the perfect item that is meant to be taken home and loved. The Garden Hut is what the buzz is all about.
