Living showroom at LaPensee

Anna Maria Island Sun News Story

invite customers to their new showroom in Holmes Beach.

LaPensee Plumbing has been helping to keep the water flowing on Anna Maria Island for almost 23 years, but having water flowing in every corner of its showroom is an event even Karen and Mike LaPensee couldn’t have imagined all those years ago.

The LaPensees have built their business and reputation on quality customer service. Through the years, they have added plumbing and related services on a regular basis, cumulating in their recent move into 4,200 square feet of space in Holmes Beach to accommodate both their staff of 20 and their living showroom.

And you haven’t lived till you’ve seen how alive their showroom is. The Lapensees, have made their inter-active showroom not only effective but beautiful. Their functioning spa tubs are equipped with state of the art jets, nozzles and aroma therapy. One of the tubs has Laminar Flow which fills the tub from a single point of flow on the ceiling. The effect will blow your mind, looking like a clear tube from the ceiling to the tub, and according to Karen LaPensee, is just fun to have.

The live working walk-in shower has 30 shower heads, 16 from the ceiling alone, and every other possible direction you can imagine, as well as a huge selection of shower heads and bathroom and kitchen faucets. In addition, LaPensee’s living kitchen displays feature filtered water, chilled and hot water , working disposals and a variety of kitchen sinks.

My favorite display, however, is the 20 vessel sinks in some of the most beautiful and creative designs I’ve ever seen. One had hand carved fish swimming around the outside of the basin, each fish slightly different from the next. The innovative decorative basin drain covers, one with a leaf and another a shell, are just some of the nice touches available at LaPensee.

The grand new showroom is managed by Karen Bradley formerly of The Plumbing Place in Sarasota. The LaPensees and Bradley invite everyone to stop in and see all the great new plumbing and design products available.

In addition to its new headquarters and showroom, LaPensee Plumbing has added LaPensee Plumbing Pool Service to its list of services. Its pool service manager has more than 10 years in the business and offers both residential and commercial service on both a contract, or individual call basis.

Karen LaPensee points out that among their 18 vehicles, LaPensee Plumbing has the only 24-hour designated emergency water truck on the island. Their vehicle is equipped with digging capabilities, generator, lights, pumps and parts to repair broken water mains on an emergency basis.

LaPensee continues to offer complete plumbing services as well as bathroom and kitchen renovations in conjunction with local companies, and offer a wide range of manufacturers, prices and styles to choose from. One of the most recent "green" additions to their line of toilets is one that conforms to the latest Miami Dade building code with a 1.28 flow, less than the 1.6 low flow currently required in Manatee County’s building codes. Karen LaPensee reminds everyone that the county will give rebates if you replace toilets in your existing home with a low flow.

In spite of all their expansion, LaPensee Plumbing is still very much a family affair with Karen & Mike LPensee’s son Greg LaPensee now Vice President of the company. But the Lapensee’s daughter Shawn LaPensee, who is about to graduate from Florida State, will probably be perusing work for a non-profit organization, a passion she may have inherited from her mother who works with the Anna Maria Community Center as one of the organizers of the annual Anna Maria Tour of Homes.

Do you think when the ancient Romans built the aqueducts to transport their fresh water they had 30 shower heads in mind? Probably not, but thankfully Lapensee Plumbing thought of it and has taken water flow to a whole new level…staying clean has never been so much fun.
