When’s the last time your kids played nice? I mean really nice, as in let’s open a business together nice. Well if you want to see a couple of brothers not only play nice but also make beautiful pastry together, check out Matt & Dom’s Pastry Cafe at the corner of Gulf Drive and Palmetto Avenue in Anna Maria.
Matt & Dom Schole opened their café at the end of October and have been going full tilt since the first customer came through their doors. Matt Schole learned the restaurant business working at the Ritz Carlton for four years as a pastry chef, and Dom Schole comes from a business and computer technology background. Together they handle both the business and culinary ends of their new business.
With the help and encouragement of their parents, the Scholes transformed the space formerly occupied by the Tip of the Island restaurant, into a bright, sleek European-style café. Get comfortable on the leather sofa or chat with your friends over a cup of espresso at one of the bar height tables or at the bar. You can even bring in your laptop and take advantage of their complimentary wireless Internet connections. The café has an easy feel as if it has been around for a long time, even though their official grand opening and ribbon cutting isn’t until Dec. 12.
But the real reason to visit Matt & Dom’s is for the pastry and other casual food choices on their menu. Everything, except the bagels, is baked in house. Every morning they serve coffee and Danish to what is fast becoming a regular coffee crowd. Lunch starts at 11 a.m. and runs to 2 p.m. with a variety of wraps, sandwiches, salads and soups.
Chicken Caesar Wrap, Grilled Ham & Cheese and a Chicken Salad Sandwich, which I hear is awesome, are just a few of the lunch items. They have smoothies, espresso, cappuccino, latte and soft drinks available. And don’t forget to take a look at the yummy display case stocked with pastries to eat in or take home. At their Sunday brunch you can order waffles or crepes for only $5.75
Matt & Dom’s offers wedding cakes, party trays and birthday cakes as well as holiday cakes and pies. Future plans include wine and champagne tastings, weekly entertainment, and what everyone has been asking for – fresh baked bread.
Who says brothers can’t play nice together? Not Lisa and Jerry Schole. Their sons are not only making great food but also great memories. Ttop by their café and see how delicious brotherly love can be.
