When the weather is nice, Anna Maria is paradise.
Despite predictions of rain, the weather was more than nice last weekend as Bayfest 2007 got under way.
It was a lively crowd that assembled to listen to smooth jazz from Project SRQ at the Friday Night Kickoff Party. Later, as the smell of Island food wafted through the air, the Dr. Dave Band kicked it up a notch and the field in front of the county’s huge portable stage came alive with dancers.
The next day, a cool front made its way through the area bringing gusty winds and a threat of rain, but the winds died down around noon and the rain threat subsided, but the clouds stayed, making it a much cooler Bayfest than the one last year.
There were more arts and crafts booths, more food vendors, more classic cars and possibly more people attending this year’s event after the cloud cover lifted some.
Bayfest was hosted by the Anna Maria Island Chamber of Commerce and sponsored by the Anna Maria Island Sun.
Chamber President Mary Ann Brockman said the Friday Night Kickoff Party was tremendous and it was the best Bayfest ever.
