If you call Nica Rose in Holmes Beach and you hear Creations By L, don’t hang up. The unique bead and jewelry store that has been a fixture in Holmes Beach for several years has a new owner who is gradually putting her own stamp on the popular shop.

Lois Manza and her best friend, Louise Yaghjian, have been beading together since 2003 when Manza moved to Bradenton from Rhode Island. At first it was just a hobby, an outlet for their creative abilities, but within a short period of time, they had acquired an inventory of beaded and semi precious jewelry. They started selling their original designs at craft shows along Florida’s west coast, and at the Farmer’s Market for the past three years.

When Manza saw that Nica Rose was for sale, she considered it a golden opportunity, and became the new owner on May 1. With a lot of help and encouragement from her husband, Rich, and Louise Yaghjian’s husband, Gordon, they renovated and redecorated.

Manza runs the shop, which carries a large inventory of jewelry made by both her and Yaghjian artfully arranged on some new display pieces. Their unusual designs, all carrying a tag saying Creations By L, are created with beads, fresh water pearls, Swarovski Crystal and silver. Many are accented with a pendent.

In addition to the natural products like brass, bone and wood, Nica Rose’s customers have come to expect, Manza’s inventory has expanded to include designs with a softer look. You’ll find many items created with pearls and crystals that lend themselves to a more trendy less beachy, look.

If you want to make your own jewelry, Manza stocks beads and beading accessories. At the table in the front of the shop for a fee you can Make and Take A Necklace during business hours. Day and evening beading classes are on the agenda to be scheduled soon.

But one of the really distinctive features Manza has incorporated into her new business is custom pieces of jewelry. Bring in a special outfit and she will custom design jewelry to go with it. If you have a wedding in your future, bring in the wedding party for custom coordinated jewelry made with pearls and crystals for the special day and to keep as a remembrance.

On Friday, Aug. 24, Nica Rose – Creations By L will have a grand opening to introduce Manza and Yaghjian and their line of jewelry to the community. If you’re passing by, stop in and say hello to Manza. You’ll be pleasantly surprised by the new look of a Holmes Beach classic.
