HOLMES BEACH – Three drab duplexes at Holmes Boulevard and 67th Street are about to bloom and turn this quiet corner into a tropical paradise.

"We wanted to beautify the Island and keep the ground level structures," developer Shawn Kaleta explained.

"Emily Anne Smith’s design gives them a wonderful, coastal cottage feel reminiscent of the 30s and 40s. We’re creating a casual, fun atmosphere with the benefits of luxury living."

Kaleta and his partner, Graham Hanson, are renovating the existing structures into six units of 900 to 1,700 square feet (under AC) each. The units will be turnkey furnished and sold as individual condominiums.

"We’re in demolition now," contractor Kevin Hutchison said. "Construction begins this week and the completion date is Dec. 15.

Kaleta said the main entrance to the complex would be from 67th Street.

"As you walk in the gate, there will be a gazebo and a fountain," Kaleta said. "You can walk right into the lagoon because it has no steps. There will be a waterfall that wraps around the lagoon and lush landscaping that will make you feel like you are in the jungle."

Each unit will have sliding glass doors that open onto the lagoon and a private sitting area on the lagoon. The beach is 1/2 block away.
