HOLMES BEACH Theres a new eatery
on the Island and its bringing a new dining
experience to the area.
Sportfish Grill and Market in the Holmes Beach Shopping
Center at 5318 Marina Drive opened recently after
owner Jeff Cummins purchased Crabber Toms. He
redecorated and came up with an extensive new menu
adding several new types of cuisine to the seafood
that had been a mainstay of the old restaurant.
"Its a fusion of regional United States
and international cuisine," Cummins said. "Its
where old Florida merges with trendy tapas."
The menu includes seafood, pasta, barbecue and Mexican
dishes.
Cummins hails from California, where he worked as
an artist, entertainer and in the restaurant business
for 16 years before moving to the area. He worked
locally at the Sarasota Yacht Club, the Lakewood Ranch
Country Club and the Mango Grill before opening Sportfish
Grill and Market. He said he wants the seafood to
enhance the dining experience.

"Sportfish is a kind of fishing boat
designed for big game," he said "We hope to show
fishing videos and well hang fish replicas on the
walls."
Cummins said he also invites local anglers and fishing boat
captains to bring in their photos and videos of their catch.
He said hes already seen a lot of interest from the
captains.
In addition to the fresh seafood, he plans on fresh ingredients
in his sauces.
"Well serve simple salsas with hot sauces to
add on," he said. "My wife is from Mexico and
shell have a lot of influence on our Mexican dishes."
Its a new dining experience, according to Cummins,
who said he intends to sell a lot of stone crab during season.
His menu includes daily specials and you can order to go.
