Music educator Sarah Pope is offering a summer string
training ensemble for students of all ages to be held
at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church during June and July.
"It will be mainly performance related," she
explained. "I want them to already know how to
read music. It will include sight reading and learning
to play as an ensemble learning to play with
others as a group and have the same sound."
Pope, a graduate of Manatee High School, has a BA in
music from Furman University in Atlanta and a masters
degree in violin performance from Florida State University.
She plays in the Anna Maria Island Community Chorus
and Orchestra and the North Port Community Orchestra
and has been a finalist in several Florida violin competitions.
She operates a private music studio in northwest Bradenton.

Sarah Pope, who has a masters degree in violin
performance, will be offering summer string ensemble
training.

"I teach piano, violin and guitar,"
she said. "I have eight students from 8 to 17 years
old. I enjoy teaching so much, seeing the improvement and
inspiring the kids."
The ensemble will include intermediate and advanced levels
of playing. Music will be from the baroque, classical, romantic
and contemporary genres.
"This ensemble will give students a chance to nourish
their love and talent for music through the summer without
having to leave home," she pointed out.
"Im trying to fill a gap because the other options
are to go away to camp or not play. Its also for people
who dont have the opportunity to play in an orchestra."
Classes will be held from 9 a.m. until noon at the church
at 6608 Marina Drive, Holmes Beach. Dates are June 10, 17
and 24 and July 1, 8, 15, 22 and 23. There are openings
for 40 players.
Applications must be postmarked by May 10 and are available
at manateestrings.com or by calling Pope at (941) 920-2408.
The fee of $250 is due with the application, but is refundable
until June 3 if a student must cancel.
