ANNA MARIA Tropical Treats and Eats is no more.
The five owners of the popular two-year old ice cream,
snack, lunch and dinner spot on Gulf Drive closed its
doors for the last time Wednesday, March 30.
The shop was owned and operated by JoAnn Mattick; her
son and daughter-in-law, Marcia and John Mattick; and
Becky Mattick Bouchard and her husband. |
"We just got tired of going seven days a week,"
said Marcia Mattick. "Becky went back to nursing.
It was she and I who did the shop. It was too much for
me alone, and when my manager decided to move back to
New Mexico, there just wasnt any way."
Mattick said she cried when she locked the door for the
last time.
"Its been two years of my life, and Ill
miss it and Ill miss the people," she said.
"But Im looking forward to spending time with
my daughters. My 11-year old and I just spent the day
at the beach. I cant remember the last time we got
to do that.
Mattick said neither the high taxes nor the costs of insurance
played a role in the decision to close.
"We knew all that going in," she said. "That
was just a cost of doing business. No, it was just that
with just me to run things, it was just too much."
Mattick said the partners plan to hold onto the property,
which is adjacent to her home on the northeast corner
of Gulf Drive and Magnolia, but the shop and its fixtures
can be leased.
