WMFD Takes First Place in AAA

WMFD captures the first place title with a record of 9-6 in AAA Anna Maria Little League baseball action. Second place is tied for now between Morgan Stanley, 6-8-2, and Duncan, 6-7-2, as of Friday, May 20. Second place will be officially determined after the final game of the season between WMFD and Duncan on Monday, May 23.

Monday, May 16
WMFD 15, Morgan Stanley 7
Despite Morgan Stanley’s lead in the bottom of the second inning, WMFD was able to pull ahead with the win beating Morgan Stanley 15-7. WMFD’s Blake Wilson pitched first, giving up four walks and two hits and striking out four. Shawn Conover pitched next, allowing six hits and striking out three.

The five run rule applied to WMFD in the top of the first. Hunter Parrish batted first, and singled. Then Alex Burgess walked and Wilson doubled, getting an RBI double as he sent Parrish and Burgess home. Wilson scored a run as Tommy Price was up at bat. Price singled, Conover walked, then Justin Succa whacked a double, sending Price and Conover home. In the bottom of the first, Morgan Stanley’s Blake Rivers walked, Matt Bauer singled and Daniel Janisch tripled sending Rivers, Bauer and himself home.

Morgan Stanley took advantage of WMFD’s scoreless second inning. Katie Hunt made base on a walk and scored a run on passed balls. Zach Evans and Rivers walked, then Kyle Parsons batted in Evans. Rivers scored a run as Bauer was up at bat, bringing the score to 6-5. Parsons was on fire as he caught two WMFD fly balls one in the top of the second and one in the top of the third.

WMFD started closing in on Morgan Stanley in the top of the third when Burgess singled. Price doubled and sent Burgess and himself across the plate. In the top of the forth, WMFD’s Toussaint, Parrish and Burgess all walked. Wilson singled and batted in Elijh Toussaint and Parrish. Then Price slammed a double and sent Burgess and Wilson home to solidify a five run lead.

In the top of the fifth, WMFD’s Joey Hutchinson singled and slid home as Michael Dolan was up at bat. Dolan ripped a single and sent Connor Cloherty home. Price doubled in Dolan and Parrish for WMFD’s final run of the game. Bauer scored the final run for Morgan Stanley in the bottom of the fifth as Zach Even singled him in. WMFD got the win.

Morgan Stanley’s William Brusso pitched first, allowing four walks, seven hits and striking out one. Parsons gave up two walks, and Bauer allowed five walks, six hits and struck out five.

Wednesday, May 18
WMFD 14, Duncan 6
WMFD beat Duncan 14 to 6 in this AAA Little League game on Wednesday, May 18. Tommy Price led WMFD going 4-for-4, including four singles, an RBI triple and two runs scored. Teammate Justin Succa smacked a single, an RBI double and scored two runs. Blake Wilson went 3-for-4, whacking three singles, an RBI, and scoring two runs. Alex Burgess and Max Moneuse each got an RBI and scored one run. Burgess ripped a pair of singles and Moneuse singled. Joey Hutchinson hit a pair of singles and scored a run. Connor Cloherty and Toussaint each singled, and Hunter Parrish scored two runs. Shawn Conover and Michael Dolan each scored a run in the win.

Trevor Bystrom helped to lead Duncan by hitting a single and an RBI. Troy Koszewski and Daniel Pimentel each singled and each scored a run. Grant Bower scored two runs, and Travis Belsito and Glenn Bower scored one run each in the loss.

Friday, May 20
Duncan 13, Morgan Stanley 9
The bases were loaded when Patrick Edwards ripped a triple and batted in three of his teammates to help lead Duncan 13-9 over Morgan Stanley on Friday, May 20. Troy Koszewski, Jake Rappe Jordan Sebastiano and Austin Wash each singled, Koszewski scored two runs, Sebastiano and Wash scored one run each. Travis Belsito, Trevor Bystrom, Alex Hall and Daniel Pimentel scored a pair of runs each.

Zach Even lead Morgan Stanley with a pair of singles, an RBI double and one run scored. Matt Bauer got an RBI and scored two runs. Zach Evans, Daniel Janisch and Kyle Parsons singled, Janisch scored two runs and Parsons scored one. Martine Miller scored two runs and Blake Rivers scored one.

Anna Maria Little League Baseball Awards Ceremony
The awards ceremony for the Anna Maria Little League Baseball will be held on Wednesday, May 25. The T-ball awards will be given at 6:30 p.m. AA (pitching machine) at 7 p.m. and AAA at 7:30 p.m.

AMICC roller hockey

The Anna Maria Islanders Roller Hockey will have the final game Tuesday, May 24 at 7 p.m. where the kids will verse the parents. The game will consist of three periods of fifteen minutes each. The final awards ceremony will immediately follow the game.

Tuesday, May 17
True Value Hardware 10, Play It Again Sport’s 8
True Value Hardware beat Play It Again Sport’s 10-8 in this close game of roller hockey action on Tuesday, May 17. Travis Belsito scored for True Value within the first minute. Play it Again’s Broderick West answered the goal to tie up the score. West’s goal went in midair, near post. Teammate Max Marnie scored thirty seconds later. An unassisted Patrick Facheris intercepted a pass and scored, tying up the score again. Next, Belsito intercepted a pass, wrapped around the goal and got the puck in. Play It Again’s goalie Matt Shafer made a butterfly save, perfectly anticipating where the puck would fly. Play It Again’s Marnie scored on a skilled far post shot. True Value’s Patrick Facheris battled the goalie for his next goal; he shot it three times before getting it in, ending the first period with True Value in the lead, 4-3.

Play It Again’s West scored off of a Jonah Castor assist to bring the score to 4-4 in the beginning of the second period. True Value’s Luke Shackelford scored next off of a centered pass from Belsito. West again answered True Value with an unassisted goal. Zachary Facheris’s near post goal helped put True Value in the lead. Teammate Shackelford was again open to whack the puck in after a centered pass came from Troy Koszewski. Shackelford didn’t stop there; he got his third goal of the game, giving him a hat trick once again off of a Koszewski pass to end the second period 8-5.

The first five minutes of the third period were scoreless until Koszewski got the puck in on a rebound. Play It Again’s unassisted Marnie scored next, far post. Then teammate West scored his forth goal of the game off of a Marnie assist. Zachary Facheris brought the puck down the right side and scored near post. True Value’s goalie Trevor Bystrom played hard deflecting many of Play It Again’s final attempts. Marnie scored the final goal of the game on a rebound, but it was not enough to overcome True Value’s two point lead.
