John and Laurie Adams renew vows on 50th

Pledging to love and honor each other
from this day forward, John and Laurie Adams renewed their
wedding vows a day before their 50th anniversary.
Surrounded by children, grandchildren, family and friends,
the couple celebrated on the beach off Magnolia Avenue
the site of two previous 50th wedding anniversary celebrations
in the Adams family. John's mother and father, Sam and Alice
Adams, and Alice's sister, Bernice, and her husband, Ward
Cole, also celebrated in the same spot.
The Adams have lived all over the world and are now retired
and living in Holmes Beach.
Daughter Cay Maria, who lives in New York, made a saffron
wedding canopy, a reflection of the recent event in Central
John and Laurie met on the Island while they were in high
"We both always vacationed here," said John. "I
graduated and we waited a year until Laurie graduated. Then
Father Frank McGrath officiated at the renewal of vows and
the Adams' children shared memories of their parents' lives.
"These two people are an example of what commitment
means," said Judy Adams, sister-in-law. "Their
word is their bond. We could all learn from them."
As the ceremony concluded, John sang a song to his bride
about how he'd always dreamed she'd be by his side.
