Luau for Learning 2005

SUN PHOTOS/MAGGIE FIELD AND TOM VAUGHT

The hula dancer gave “volunteers” lessons on the stage.

More than 350 people attended the 2005 Spring Fling “Luau for Learning” last Saturday evening and by the time they counted up the proceeds, it had raised a record of around $45,000, far exceeding last year’s total of $25,000.

The PTO homeroom moms, committee members and volunteers put the Hawaiian touch to the grand ballroom at St. Bernard Catholic Church, and the food donated by area restaurants and food establishments put everyone in a buying mood when it came to the silent and live auctions.

The proceeds will be divided between several projects. The first $10,000 goes toward new library books; the second $10,000 goes for more computers for the school’s mobile lab; $5,000 goes for new cameras and equipment for the aquditorium and for new cameras for the auditorium; and everything remaining goes to the art department, with the purchase of a ceramics kiln at the top of the list.
