Professional women meet
The Together Anna Maria Island Chapter of S.W.A.T. (Successful Women Aligning Together) is holding its November networking meeting and lunch on Thursday, Nov. 16, from 11:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. at the Bridge Street Bistro, 111 Gulf Drive S. in Bradenton Beach.
S.W.A.T. meetings offer an opportunity to circulate business cards and meet other professional women and enjoy a lunch with a view. Guests are always welcome. The AMI Chapter meets every third Thursday of each month.

Garden club blooms
The Anna Maria Garden Club begins the new season with its annual plant sale on Saturday, Nov. 18, at Roser Community Church, 512 Pine, Anna Maria, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The sale features native plants, succulents, assorted herbs, hanging baskets and homegrown plants by club members and impressive raffle prizes. Proceeds from the sale and raffles will be used to aid and protect native trees, birds and plants to encourage civic planting and conservation. For more information, call Charlotte at 941-778-6758.
Exercise
Get fit while you sit
Roser Community Church hosts Roser-Robics at 9:30 a.m. every Wednesday and Friday in the Fellowship Hall, 512 Pine Avenue, Anna Maria.
Roser-Robics consists of chair-based aerobic exercises designed to increase cardiovascular and muscular endurance. All ages and skill levels are welcome as variations are shown. Bring two cans of fruit of equal size and weight to be used for class activities.

Get a chair workout
The Anna Maria Island Art League hosts gentle chair yoga with instructor Cindy Phillips on Wednesdays from noon to 12:45 p.m. at 5312 Holmes Blvd., Holmes Beach. The cost is $12 per class. Spaces are limited.
Phillips owns Island Yoga Space. She holds a bachelor’s degree in humanities and performing arts from Southern Oregon University.
Gentle Chair Yoga combines breathing with postures to help improve strength, flexibility, balance and tranquility. This class will focus on stretching to foster healing and soothing of the spirit and gaining an overall sense of well-being, followed by balance and strengthening poses utilizing a chair as a prop.

Nature
Butterflies flutter by
On Saturday, Nov. 18, nature lovers will have two opportunities to observe butterflies. From 9 to 11 a.m., observers will be able to walk through Neal Preserve, 12301 Manatee Ave. W., Bradenton.
As part of the Wings over Florida Butterfly Program, participants will be given a butterfly checklist to become a part of a state-wide citizen scientist opportunity geared towards monitoring and protecting Florida’s native butterfly species. From 1 to 3 p.m., observers will walk through Robinson Preserve, 1704 99th St. N.W., Bradenton, as part of the Wings Over Florida Butterfly Program recommended for 6- to 12-year-olds, but children of all ages are welcome. Master Gardener tour
Learn about the flora of Robinson Preserve, 1704 99th St. N.W., Bradenton, with a Master Gardener tour from 9 to 11 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 19. Explore salt marshes and salt terns to discover the plants adapted to living in this salty environment.

Night creatures studied
For the Island Branch Library’s preschool story time on Tuesday, Nov. 21, at 5701 Marina Drive, Holmes Beach, The Manatee County Parks and Natural Resources Department will present, “Nocturnal Neighbors,” about creatures that sleep all day and are awake all night.
