BRADENTON BEACH – The annual lighting of the Bridge Street Merchants’ Christmas tree is scheduled for approximately 5:45 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 24.
There had been discussion among the Bridge Street Merchants regarding the tree lighting taking place on Friday, Nov. 23, the day after Thanksgiving. Last weekend, Bridge Street Merchants’ president Fred Bartizal and member Sherman Baldwin both confirmed the event would take place on Saturday.
Baldwin said the undecorated tree would be delivered Monday and placed near the roundabout at the east end of Bridge Street, near the Bridge Street Pier. In previous years, the tree lighting ceremony took place at the vacant lot next to the Fish Hole adventure golf course.
As she’s done in past years, Bridge Street Interiors and Mermaid Haven owner Deb Myers will decorate the tree prior to Saturday’s festivities. Baldwin said the tree will be lit when it gets dark enough to illuminate the decorations.
“We’re excited about this location because it will be visible from Gulf Drive, and that might bring people down the street,” Baldwin said.
Baldwin said he’s reached out to some carolers in hopes of securing their vocal talents. Bradenton Beach Commissioner Ralph Cole will flick the switch and light the tree.
Baldwin said the tree lighting ceremony will not be a large-scale special event that requires a street closing, but the Bradenton Beach Police Department is aware of the event and will provide assistance if needed.
The Bridge Street Merchants will host their annual Christmas on Bridge Street holiday celebration on Saturday, Dec. 15.
